Speaking of great albums that were either dismissed or dissed for whatever reason, another comes to mind. Like Whitney Houston’s Just Whitney, Michael Jackson’s Invincible was released in a time of heated debate and controversy. In Jackson’s case he was immersed in an all-out dispute with Sony Records chairman Tommy Mottola over contractual issues that would eventually lead to a lack of promotion for Invincible.

Jackson had not record an album of new material sense Dangerous in 1991. In the intervening years, he was more in the news for charges of child molestation or court proceedings over paternity issues. The elapsed time provided Jackson with a bank of experiences that translated to a more grown-up approach to his typical subject matter.
